Snapchat Download Not Working?
Most failures come down to one of five things. Here’s how to figure out which one — and fix it.
Short answer: Most Snapchat download failures come down to one of four things — expired content, private content, a wrong link format, or a browser issue. This guide walks through each one so you can figure out what’s happening and fix it.
1. The Content Has Expired
This is the most common cause by far. Snapchat Stories disappear after 24 hours — once they’re gone, they’re gone from Snapchat’s servers completely. No downloader can recover expired Stories, because there’s nothing left to download. If you have a link but it’s more than a day old, the content has likely expired.
Spotlight videos don’t have this problem — they live indefinitely. If the content you’re trying to save is a Spotlight clip, expiry isn’t the issue.
2. The Content Is Private
A downloader can only access what Snapchat makes publicly visible. Friends-only Stories, direct Snaps, and private Memories are not accessible. If you’re trying to save something that wasn’t set to “Everyone,” the download will fail because the content isn’t publicly available.
To check: open the link in a browser you’re not logged into. If you can see the video without signing in, it’s public and downloadable. If it asks you to log in or says the content isn’t available, it’s private.
3. The Link Format Is Wrong
Not every link that comes from Snapchat works as a download link. A valid Snapchat link for downloading typically starts with one of these:
spotlight.snapchat.com/...story.snapchat.com/s/...t.snapchat.com/...(short link)snapchat.com/add/...orsnapchat.com/p/...
If you copied a link from a notification, a forwarded message, or a screenshot, try going back to the original content in Snapchat and using Share → Copy Link fresh. Forwarded links sometimes get malformed.
4. A Browser Issue on iPhone
On iPhone specifically, Chrome sometimes handles file downloads differently than Safari. If the download button does nothing or opens a new tab instead of saving, try Safari. It’s the most reliable browser for saving files to iOS and is tested regularly with Snaptube.
5. The Creator Deleted the Content
Even publicly shared content can be taken down by the creator before the 24-hour window closes. If a link that was working earlier now fails, the creator may have deleted it. There’s no workaround for this one.
6. Storage Space on Your Device
If the download starts but doesn’t complete, check your device storage. A nearly full phone will fail downloads without a clear error message. Clear some space and try again.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is my Snapchat download not working?
The most common reasons: the Story expired (24-hour limit), the content is friends-only or private, the link format is wrong, or the creator deleted the post. Check each of these in the order above — the first two account for most failures.
Why doesn’t the download button work on my iPhone?
Switch from Chrome to Safari. Chrome on iOS handles file downloads differently and sometimes fails silently. Safari is the most reliable browser for downloading files on iPhone and is what Snaptube is tested against most heavily.
What does a valid Snapchat link look like?
Valid links start with spotlight.snapchat.com, story.snapchat.com/s/, or t.snapchat.com. If what you copied doesn’t match any of these patterns, go back to the content in Snapchat and use Share → Copy Link to get a fresh URL.
Can I download a Snapchat Story after 24 hours?
No — Snapchat deletes expired Stories from their servers. Once the 24-hour window closes, the content is gone and no tool can recover it. Spotlight videos don’t expire and can be downloaded any time.
The download starts but the file is broken. Why?
Usually a storage or connection issue. Check you have enough free space on your device, and that your internet connection stayed stable through the download. Try again on Wi-Fi if you were on mobile data.
